Who is Jesus?
Jesus is not a curse word. He is God's son and He is the one person we need to get to know and believe in. There is a longing in every persons heart to be in a right relationship with God. Many times we don't recognize that longing, we only know that we have an "emptiness' or a 'deep void' in our lives that we attempt to fill with activities, drugs, good deeds, etc. All these things that we try will satisfy temporarily but eventually we feel 'hungry' once again. The thing is, there is only one way to be satisfied and that is to have a close relationship with the God who created us - and the only way to do that is to be forgiven for all the wrong stuff we've done.
We all have a sense of fairness built into us - when something wrong is done someone needs to pay. That's where Jesus comes in - Jesus, God's perfect son came down to earth and lived as a man. He didn't deserve to die but he took onto himself all the wrong stuff you and I would ever do and he died a cruel death on a cross instead of us, but the story doesn't end there. Having made things right with God for you and I He then came back to life and returned to Heaven to wait for us to join Him there. Why would Jesus do all this for you? The only answer is - because He loves you.
Jesus loves you so much he died for you to set you free to get to know God, and to change your life. Really - it's this simple - watch the animation for a clear understanding of what Jesus did on the Cross for you.

So what do I do now? You either accept or reject what Jesus did for you. If you accept it, then you must first receive the gift that God is offering, you must believe by faith that Jesus is God's son and that he died in your place. Secondly, you need to ask God to forgive you for the wrongs that you've done and everything that you know is wrong in your life. The Bible calls this 'repentance'. Finally you need to thank Jesus for dying for you and for the gift of freedom that he has given you. If you are ready to take these steps right now please pray this prayer aloud...
God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge Your Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the Cross, and I long to receive the forgiveness You have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. I believe in You and will follow Your teachings. I give you my life now. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life my King, my Lord and my Saviour. My days are in Your hands. Thank You for the free gift of eternal life. Amen.
Congratulations and welcome to the family of God! Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment. We want to hear from you so we may celebrate your decision with you. There are a few things that we would like to encourage you to do now that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
- Find a local church where you can worship God. (See below for a list of Exeter Churches)
- Get baptized as commanded by Christ.
- Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
- Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
- Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ. We would be delighted to hear from you too!
